I screwed up... help me find a way out....

Ok, yes, I guess if I had thought about it, I should have known better... But essentially I have a lot of long tail words in one campaign that get a very low ctr, but convert ok. I really can't optimize too much for all of these garbage terms on my landing pages and certainly can't create very relevant ads. The ads are on topic to the keyword.. its just kind of on the fringe of relevancy. So, I chased the disabled ads and higher minimum bids for awhile... and then it stuck. I went a couple of weeks without any keywords getting disabled even though my ctr wasn't very good in this campaign. I was making money and should have left things alone. My bid was about .75 per click, and I could live with that.

Then today I added a parameter to the url of the ad. (I know, I'm stupid) You know, ?source=adgroupname. Didn't change anything else. But instead of leaving the old ad going, for statistics purposes I wanted to track with this new parameter, so I deleted the old ad. Within an hour virtually all of my minimum bids had been raised to $5.

So... how do I go back to my original ad that has now been deleted and get back to where I was without creating meaningless scrapper content pages for landing pages to improve quality score. I had a happy medium where I could live with the cpc price and then screwed it up by simply adding a parameter to the url. Removing the parameter didn't help. What's my next step without chasing a $5 bid?

try recreating a new AdGroup with the old KWs + old Ad (initially a small number for test), but ensure you pause the previous ad first.

let me know if that solves it for you

Ok, by this time tomorrow I will know. I did as was suggested and started a new campaign with the same text and url as the old ad, and the same keywords. Right now only 135 words are disabled, which is about the same as were disabled prior to changing the ad. I'll report back when/if it changes to 1,500 disabled. I expect that to happen within the next 12 hours, but you never know.

Thanks so much for the tip. Hope it holds.

bloard...just as an FYI for the future anytime you make any change to an add, no matter how small, you "reset" the ad.
