Very true, I have a friend that passed through that and was forced to transfer the domain to a US friend. They didn't gave him any other option, the domain was about to delete and finally they let him transfer it to a US resident but If you don't have any contact in the us I wouldn't deal with .us domains.

Best is to sell it, i would not risk developing a website on a US domain, and after 4 years find that the domain is no longer in my hand !

I think as long as you don't cross some U.S. based business by using their name, and as long as your site is targeted to USA visitors and in english, you will be OK. I have many .us domains, i'm not US citizen as well.
