I refuse to click!

Discussion in 'Google AdWords' started by nickswift, Oct 6, 2010.

I have been in SEO and AdWords for a number of years (passed the Google exam), and i just found myself copying and pasting a adwords url because i did not want the person who put the ad up getting charged for the click!

Have I lost it or am I just really really kind?

I have found myself doing the same thing and i am not sure why. I have also found myself doing something not very kind. If my search triggers a totally irrelevant or poorly worded ad i sometimes click on it because it pisses me off. I dont know about you but i think i may be losing it

They will get paid unless you take the &url=(string here)& out, so it's a bit of a nuisance to do.

That is a very sweet idea. I never even thought of that. I will definitely be doing that from now on.

But we should not do that, It is on these ads the publisher is dependent on.
If we don't click... It will discourage him in the long run if he don;t find any money..

So if you see an interesting ad click it...

You should click on the ad, because if every one will do like you, then there is no use of becoming an adsense publisher.

If the ad is about what I am searching for, like the camera lens I want to get, I will click on the ad. Because when I am shopping, it may as well be convenient for me. And the companies ad is taking up space not by accident. A search page could hold more natural search results in two columns if not for the ads. So I feel that's fair.

But whenever I am searching for information and its not related to buying, I bypass the ads whenever possible to avoid sticking the company with a fee.

If its on search result of Google.com than its ok ... if this one is on some ones website and you want to visit that website than click on it.

I am the same way. If an ad interests me I will just go to the direct url....
But then again you might be taking money away from an affiliate that is running the add for the website...so its two fold..

If the ad is relevant and I am actually interested I do click on it cause it is counting as an impression anyway and this way it will count as a click increasing the CTR. I guess that is cause I manage other people's accounts and always take into consideration all the metrics...

C'mon why would you not click the ad? You'd rather copy and paste the url to save the advertiser money? What about the publisher? Why not click the ad so he can earn some change? You are visiting his site and using/reading his content. OP, do you advertise on your site? Maybe you should put up a banner that says "Hey, dont click my ads, just copy and paste the url"

You asked if you were really kind? Oh please, kind to who? lol

    I also do that,

But only if the page showing that advertisement is completely rubish.
If the page showing the advertisement is good and gave me good informations then i always click on advertisements.

That way both the advertiser and publisher will benefit. But i also suggest you not to click on ads instead copy url
if the page showing the ad is made just for getting visitors or ad clicks.

By the way , also read thankyouclick.org

Click through ratio although expensive actually has major benefits for the website owners. Higher click through ratios lead to lower cost per click and also higher permanent placement of ads. If no one clicked on the most relevant and interesting ads it would probably do more harm than good.
