The most important reasons to choose blogspot are described below

The ease of use - Blogger blog can be used without any technical know how
Blogger provides the strongest blogging platform with host of powerful free features
Faster indexing time - Blogger blogs are indexed in google within hours automatically while other platforms need several days to get indexed. So you are able to provide latest news on your blog.
Blogspot blogs doesn't need any SEO. But you can use some optimization techniques for better results.
Blogger is integrated with your google account as well as adsense account.
Change visual appearance and templates in blogger as any way you like.
It's completely free but provides the most powerful blogging platform. Thanks to Google

I've just signed up and you're right. A few hours tweaking here n' there and already my blog's looking awesome. There are no posts in it yet, cos theres a few questions I'd like to put forward to you and everyone esle first.

Right, do you sir or anyone else know how to categorize posts? And I'm not talking about Labels. I'm going to add that option in too. I'm talking about Pages.

Here look, you'll see what I mean then.

    http://www.google.com/support/blogger/bin/answer.py?answer=165955

You can add it to a side bar or across the top.

    1. Has anyone use this to categorize posts?

    2. Are you allowed to post in that category as many times as you like or is it just a stand alond page.

There are advantages of BlogSpot but again it has lots of disadvantages. Here is a nice post which out down some useful points on having self hosted blog.
One point which make sense is when you are on any free blogging platform, despite of being an admin, you don't control the blog. Google can delete your blog any time with couple of complaints..

Yikes. Yeah, I've thought about that. I'm sure to get some notices as will Google. I have not completely ruled out the option of having something like Wordpress which will require paid h0st!ng.

    Thanks for the link.

i agree with you because Blogger blog indexing is fast and instead of word press. it give you free ads facility on the other way
word press not give you this facility.

For categorizing your posts in blogger, use labels. What's wrong with labels?!!

For some new to blogging it is really recommended to use blogger platform because it's easy to learn. Wordpress is more well-organized and complicated compared to the former one.

I think blogger is really good for newbies since everuthing is already done plus it has some options to customize and of course it is fee, but if you really want to personalize your blog I think wordpress is better, it requires some time to personalize it but it is worth it. As far as indexing I don't think it makes a difference, i have had my wordpress blog indexed in less than one hour by using bookmarkings and popular keywords.

    My take

i believe there is nothing better than total control of your blog and that is what a self-hosted blog using wordpress is all about. even when you say you are still a beginner, if you really are into blogging then there has to be an effort on your part to learn.
