Looks like I must know something...

5 weeks ago http://wordpressinstall.com went live. It's a site offering installation services for Wordpress. My target keywords were "wordpress installation service". I checked today, and I now rank #1 in organic listings!

    Check it out:

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=wordpress+installation+service

I have never paid a penny to advertise this site at all. I usually get about 2-3 installs per day on the site.

If anyone is interested in some of the methods I use on my websites to improve their search engine rankings, feel free to check out my blog at http://sitefever.com. You can also subscribe to my full content RSS feed.

Now thats a good question LoL.

Anyway congratulations (even tho it is not a competitive keyphrase) but you did very good onsite seo and worked your self up to the top. How much traffic does that keyphrase bring you (since you are #1), just curious ?

I know its not the most popular search term, but I wanted it to be specific. The trick I used here is to optimize the site for a very narrow search term in order to move to the top easier and to attract only traffic that will be potential customers.

I dont want to waste a ton of time busting my butt for a "popular" search term that attracts customers that would never purchase my services.

So far this month, Im looking at about 160 uniques.

I am also ranking very well for all of the "sister" sites:

installsmf.com: ranks 5th of 950,000 results for "smf installation services"
installmambo.com: ranks 3rd of 1,650,000 results for "mambo installation services"
installosc.com: ranks 9th of 1,780,000 results for "oscommerce installation services"
wordpressinstall.com: ranks 1st of 2,120,000 results for "wordpress installation services"
installpunbb.com: ranks 1st of 455,000 results for "punbb installation services"

installphpbb.com: ranks 7th of 2,340,000 results for "phpbb installation services"
installmyphp.com: ranks 26th of 5,140,000 results for "script installation services"

google sometimes puts new sites at the top of the results for a bit, and takes them out.... so don't get happy yet.

Well it brings me traffic and a nice fulltime income. Usually between $200-$350 per day from all the sites. Sure its not a search term that will get be 5,000,000 visitors per day, but Im not looking for traffic- just sales. And that's what I'm doing- ranking well for the search terms my customers will be searching for.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I feel I am doing extremely well.

People will pay for a lot of different things that people here take for granted. If you dont know how to set something like that up, its far better to pay $20 to have it done than waste a full day learning it!

    Good going.

You are absolutely correct with what you say below. At the end of the day, all that matters is the $$$$. You did your homework and found traffic that pays!

Thanks for the comments. I would much rather get 3,000 visitors per month for a more specific search term in which 70% of them are potential customers rather than spending years and mega bucks to rank well for a search term that would bring me 3,000,000 visitors per month for a more broad search term such as "scripts" and have 99% of the traffic looking to buy scripts rather than having them installed.

At the end of the day, all that matters is $$$. I could care less if those sites rank PR8 and everyone has heard of them. As long as my potential customers can find it, that's all that matters to me.

You make good points about the sales. You know, since you are doing all of these different installs, have you considered crossing them over and getting some repeat business? I know a couple of years ago I would have paid to have a couple of these integrated.

Thanks for pointing out that fact. That is actually one of the tactics I used in order to decide how to optimize these pages. I was looking for the path of least resistance, so to speak. :)

Its great strategy. But I'd not be feeling like WHOO-HOO! to rank out of 6 pages ;)

    kidding..

By the way, before posting this thread how many uniques you were getting for this keyword? curious minds want to know.
