With all these owners about, I can't help but ask: Can anyone identify 4 discreet points to ranking well in MSN ? I don't mean the usual vaguaries either - distinct practices. For example, simply saying volume linkage does the trick don't float the boat. More along the lines of: IBL's from properly themed pages where the keywords feature prominently in title and content. Unlike Google, these pages don't have to rank well, or be 'authoritative' on the subject. Nor do they need to be part of a similarly themed document (site). It's only an example.. but you get what I mean - clear detail that all us owners can capitalize on Or is everyone just getting lucky and using this thread to brag about happenstance ? [JL unsheaths sword.. ] Cheers, JL
I love this too. Why should a site back in 1995 get a higher ranking with a site compared to 2005? Though the qaulity and content remain constant? The answers is none.
To expound on content. Place Keywords in H tags and that seems to give a boost. I also have seen that internal links can have a good effect on ranking. Make sure your keywords are in the anchor text of those as well as your inbound links.
To be honest, I've seen plenty of cases where this does and doesn't work. The only consistency I've really seen, is where related themes/subthemes are used in anchor texts, and oddly enough, where they descend into the navigation structure (much like a directory - but with content). It makes you wonder - the corelations between this and their cluster technology. Actually, in my opinion, MSN's cluster technology is the next ODP. For those of you unfamiliar with the MSN sandbox (and cluster technology), you can find it here. I find it interesting because it's real time. You can check out any of your emerging sites/pages as they hit the index, and (if you choose to) grow your content accordingly. Cheers, JL
I totally own msn! Top for UK Web Design and loads of others. Title tags are important, then these have to recurr in your content.
Yeah MSN seems pretty easy. The very first website I published in january was in the top 3 on MSN on one keyphrase 'biggest penis in the world'. Ok don't laugh - my first foray in affiliate marketing was 'men's health' which I ended up abandoning in favor of mainstream products , but still...too funny that my site (totally unintentionally) ranked so high. Was good for about 30 hits a day lol....probably mostly kids since I got no conversions ! Anyways...last night I think I saw the light and realized how to get in the top results for almost any keyword. Submitted my test sites this morning; guess I'll find out pretty soon if I've got the 'formula' down.
owned, as well. MSN seems to actually care about meta data. If the world switched its opinion over to MSN we'd all be rich(er).
Here's some of my ranking http://www.free-mls-online.com/top-sites.html I did it using webCEO small biz ---only allows me to do 30 kw's and so it's not a complete list..
adsense get's me to pay for many of my things ..hosting, more domain names, games, other software tools, and so forth. my goal next year is to have adsense pay for half of my mortgage.
This interests me. Anyone know of specific rankings / categorizations these major search engines use sales pages vs. information pages. legitimate tech pages vs. individual blogs. ? hope that makes sense.
I'm sure msn is reading this thread, I just lost my rank, or maybe its just a temp flux, cos I have had that rank for ages!
