Unfortunately being relatively new to PPC as an advertiser I did not take enough care and set my max CPC to high. However being more familiar with adsense and having a $3 click as the highest to date I assume I would of been alright. Somehow though I paid $18.73 for a single click. I cant believe it (it didnt convert either). Looking at my campaign summary it has not even been updated and I am just glad I looked closer this time. I would hate to see how much some clicks are worth and how much google gets for them. I averaged $13 + per click today and none converted. Another lesson learned. What do you suppose googles cut is of that? I would say they would be getting 70-80% per click.
Well i bet that made somebody very happy ^^ I suppose we all learn from some method or other, but we all have to learn from our mistakes :S
Last info I saw indicated Google paid out 70 - 80% to publishers (adsense users) for content network clicks.
Oh my god... You should have kept the CPC minimum, What keyword were you bidding can you specify that?
I've never had a click that high before with AdWords. You should have put that amount into adCenter, the CPC is high, but it usually always converts for me.
Ouch, I get pissed off when I have to pay more than 50 cents for a click I suggest you do your homework before diving into adwords, it can eat you alive if you don't know what you're doing
lol I did this same thing on YSM when I first started. It was a little confusing to me setting up my first campaign, and where you set your max click, it made it seem like I was setting my daily budget so I set it to $100 and low and behold that $100 was gone within 2 minutes of going live because I was paying $13 a click.
Wow I never knew that much money could change hands for a click. I've never used Adwords before, but I'm considering it with a current project, what exactly do I nedd to pay attention to so this doesn't happen to me ?
This is why before starting with Google Adwords make sure that you have the appropriate budget. You will always lose money at first, there are very low number of cases where people actually make profit on the first run.
oh man becarefull.Set your daily budget 15$ max. and play with your campaigns untill you got idea about how its works...
If you want to set a limitation for your budget, I believe you should consider the search channal and give up the content channal .
Glad I read this before I started an Adwords account today. I figured out that I needed to "graduate to standard" to get to where I could set a max CPC. I probably would have just let the optimiser stay with the initial number it was showing in the overview thinking it would stay there if I hadn't read this.
Here is some google facts, No matter what the keyword, if you set a $45 cpc you will be charged around $45 for a click Google makes money, Period. In my opinion some of their practices are ridiculous, I have had many campaigns I have had to stop because my 42 cent keywords all of a suddenly went to $5 minimum. Be Careful
