I notice that sites hosted in the UK rank well on msn.co.uk but not on .com

What's the actual deal with this on all the search engines?

I can only say I know for sure it happens on MSN.

If a site is targetting blue and purple widgets and hosted in the UK, it will be ranked within a week (with good SEO of course) on MSN.co.uk for blue and purple widgets, but it won't be anywhere to be seen on MSN.com.

Is it a simple case of MSN.co.uk having less competition between UK sites therefore it's easier to score rankings if you're hosted in the UK on MSN.co.uk, or does hosting a site in the UK actually hamper your rankings in MSN.com for your chosen words?

    Cheers,

    This is really bugging me.

I believe that first part is the truth. .uk does not have the level of competition that the US does. It is much easier to get listed higher up on msn uk.
