Hi I can buy seo webhosting account for $24/year (1gb storage, 10 gb/month traffic, can host 10 sites, each with different C-class IP) What do You think, is this good offer? is 10gb/mo traffic enough for 10 seo mini-sites (mostly text, not much images)?
It really depends, are you more interested in solid web hosting or the different IP's? In general I think SEO hosting is a sham and probably wont be around much longer.
It is definitely a sham. Matt Cutts from Google addressed this years ago, but people that just don't know any better are still believing having sites on multiple IP's will help their SEO. Matt clearly states on his blog that it makes no difference: http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/myth-busting-virtual-hosts-vs-dedicated-ip-addresses/ For those still wasting extra money on SEO Hosting, read the above blog and save yourself some money.
+1 Agreed. On another note, they're not just wasting money, they're also wasting valuable IPv4 address space, which will soon become more difficult to acquire. If people want to believe this myth on IPv6 go right ahead, since there are plenty of those to go around for a very long time to come.
Matt's blog talked about "virtual hosting vs dedicated IP" which is not exactly SEO hosting. Virtual hosting can be on shared IP or dedicated IP. Since we have a lot IPv4 IPs, we always suggest our customers to use dedicated IPs for virtual hosting. We do this not because of SEO. There are a lot technical benefits to use a dedicated IP for each virtual site such as: SSL, site migration, site testing, site troubleshooting, ..etc. For example, we had customer sites down because they forgot to renew their domain names. We can show them their sites are working using IP addresses. If they renew their domain names, their sites will work using domain names. Google ranks rely more on site content. If CNN.com and Ebay.com were on the same shared IP. Google could tell they are totally different sites. So host on the same IP will not hurt Google ranking in such a case. But if you are an auction company and you build a lot auction sites: car auction, house auction, art auction, .. etc. If all these sites are on the same IP, and content are similar, it MAY hurt your Google ranking. Google is very picky on duplicate contents. We don't know how much will it help if you put these sites on different class C IPs. I wish someone can publish some test results to verify it does not work or it does work. Normally when people found a secret that works they may not want to share with others. There are so many SEO hosting companies out there and many of them have good customer bases. I personally won't assume all these SEO hosting customers are dumb, wasting money.
Matt's point was that whether your site has a shared IP or dedicated IP, it will not be the deciding factor in Google ranking your site. When it comes to SEO, people are willing to try anything to improve it. Therefore, as long as uninformed people keep insisting SEO hosting will help, there will be people seeking dedicated IP's and SEO Hosting companies will continue to offer their services.
