Own or manage a forum? If so, I need your advice.

I have a legal site that I spend most of my time answering the same questions via email, so I decided to start a forum. The site I currently have is a very well developed site with plenty of traffic.

    Do I :
    A: make it forums.mysite.com
    Or
    B: make it mysite.com/forums

The benefit of having mysite/forums allows me to utilize the power of the site and pass value onto the forum.

The benefit of having forums/mysite.com allows me to place it on another server or its own space.

My big apprehension is that I code most of everything myself and the idea of mixing someone else’s code like vbulliten (I know it’s good, but still) with mine (which I know inside and out) does not bode well with me.

I’m probably missing some items and would really appreciate your advice.

It really depends on what your end goal is. If you want your forum to be separate entity but still linked to your main site make it forum.mysite.com. If you want it to be a sub component make it mysite.com/forum.
