Put the link in your signature and post, post, post. You will need some sort of incentive to convince visitors why your forum is better than the one they're currently at though.

    All the best with it!

Why should they go to your site and not you to theirs, or other industry resources?

You can pay per post until your sites gets some posts and people on it. I do pay-per-post, if you are interested drop me a PM.

Keep spreading the word, eventually the people you are looking for will flow in. Make sure the site has some interesting content to read so when you do get your visitors they will stay and get involved with your site.

Agreed... I mean dp is popular so you can get a reply really quick...
it has lots of information and there is a wide audience for buy/sell/trades...

you can't compete against already popular websites... you need something that will bring and keep people in your forum.

You can try trading forum posts with others. There are many webmasters here that have forums and will probably trade a signup/posts with you.

You already made a mistake. You started this thread, asking how to attract webmasters to your website, and yet you haven't even provided us with a link! Not even in a signature! You might have added "how can I attract webmasters to THIS site?" (THIS being a URI to your website).

But it's OK. Eventually, you'll learn. I'm still learning :)

i guess you need something different and unique that would interest other webmasters to visit your site. Pay per post would be a good strategy. Some of the webmaster sites I've been, they offer some goodies/freebies like free hosting, or shirts...just t keep the members active :p you just have to come up with some better ideas

SEO (organic traffic) will take some time, so I'd suggest getting a friend and creating some fake accounts...no one joins an empty forum.

Paying for posts can also work.

I would join an empty forum, Instead of putting fake members in why don't you allow free advertising within the posts until you have many members then slowly introduce controls.?

This topic is really for everyone and this question too.
After getting and passing 7 years as webmaster i learned a lot and left to learned a lot.
Here are somethings which you have to consider.

There are a lot of forums and websites why people go to your's newly created one?
--> Firstly to stable and make your website to earn members put a contest or competiton like giving any paid things free like - domains , hosting or anything.

Just posting didn't make users attract.

Pay per post , or post to get stuffs are quite oldy now.
---> Make some intersting idea like point system or activeness system like one of mod does in vbulletin - vBexperience.

I can't afford to expense in advertising likeputting banner on other websites.
----> Peoples didn't know that putting banner on other websites in top of them didn,t really make members,
instead if you post your offers website contents, links in other forums and blogs , it make more effect.

    Do I need Marketing?
----> Offcourse yes , Try advertising using Google Adwords , Adbrite , Kontera , Clicksor , Bidvertiser or any of it , but google is best choice.

Should I have to be online on my own website?
---> Yes it give members that you are caring and concious about members, their support , their requirements.

Every website , forum has its opening day , there is no bornwinner , don't get dissapointed and close your website if you are not getting members , users also focus , how old the forum is and the forum is stable or not , so keep this thing in mind.

Keep patience and atlast work hard to make your website successfull.

I hope it will help you.
    Thanks
    James.

    Hi Nitin,

I have only one advice for now: change your color scheme! Its really high-contrast unfriendly skin in your forum.

You can take other member's opinion from DP on this:cool:

( I know where you coming from though- 'an underground community', but think about usability factor and for god sake ' ease on eyes' factor!!)
