Following is a reply I made by PM to someone here offering Unlimited Master Reseller hosting for $6.00 per month and Unlimited Reseller hosting for $4.00 per month. Please use it as guidelines for this post. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi... I won't go into detail with why I am WAY PISSED at the hosting company I have had a Master Reseller Account with for years, so lets just say, I am in the market for a new account. All I really need though is a regular reseller account with WHM and cPanel. Some of my sites are important and make money. I need to know a few things before I decide what I am going to do. 1. Whom owns the servers you are selling server space on? Are you a master reseller yourself or do you lease or own the servers? 2. Can I get a free SSL cert or at least use a shared one? 3. Can you transfer my sites for me? Every time I have tried to restore cPanel backups, it screwed up. 4. Where is the server located at that I will be on? 5. I will need the IP addy so I can ping it to test it's speed. 6. How is support handled? And 24hr? 7. I am launching a new ecommerce business on the 18th. It will involve fund raising. I can not afford allot of downtime. Can you comment on that please? Thank you for your time and I hope these questions do not burden you. John Dumas PS - I do not sell hosting. I just use my account for my own stuff.
you want an unlimited master reseller for $6 per month and you expect the company to be alive for the next few years and at the same time giving you reliable hosting? since you are opening an ecommerce site, go with a reseller that has realistic specs, lets say 5-20gb space and 10-100gb bandwidth costing from $10-$30/month that will get you reliable hosting, if you look for a lot of resources at cheap prices, you are going to get cheap quality.
Well.... Ok, if you say so but there obviously are exceptions. My current account that I have had for more than two years has lightning fast quad servers with 8g ram and rarely have any problems. I paid once per year a total of 50$. That was a MASTER Reseller account. So your next question would be... then why do you need new hosting? Good question, I wish I did not. The hosting company I am with has been sold to another company in India and I do NOT like the way they operate, not at all.
you were just the exception, most hosts that sell master reseller accounts tend to over crowd the server and then the clients make it drop eventually. And you probably still had your account because you didn't pass their secret limited. Usually people complain about getting suspended because they believe unlimited exists. You can survive on it if you know how to operate it. I cannot recommend any master reseller hosts and I cannot recommend any overselling hosts offering unlimited space and bandwidth for $5/month because life does not work like that. Also how does the new host that took over your old one operate? Was wondering what they did to make you want to switch. And good luck finding a suitable host for your site.
Well... If you must know, there was two reasons. 1. About 6 months ago, my host transferred all my domains to a newer, faster server. One domain they had problems transferring to the new server. They tried for three days and all they did was screw it up. So they just did a restore from before they started and left it on the old server. That was fine with me. So yesterday I get a nasty email from the new owners telling me that I was not special and could not be on two servers. I tried to explain that it was NOT MY FAULT and if they wanted it moved to the new server, to have at it. If they screwed it up, they would be liable to the new owner, NOT ME. I gave the new site owner six months free hosting as part of the deal. 2. The site that I sold had a log file that got very large. 45g. They emailed me asking me why I was abusing their system. Huh?.... I deleted the log file but they were still assholes about it. So I basically told them to bugger off and I would be requesting a prorated refund. That's about the size of it..... J
your second thing there explains the thing with overselling, they tell you that you have unlimited space but look at what happens if you use "too much" - these aren't hosts that I would call reliable or worth going with. but in any case, try webhostingtalk.com - its a forum dedicated to web hosting - much better than this section on DP and they have a section with just reseller hosting offers, I'm sure you'll find something there note: they don't allow unlimited web hosting offers but it's a good site nonetheless
Hey njoker... Thanks for all your input. Do note however that I am not so naive as to not understand the underlying nature of UNLIMITED hosting. However... look at it from a different point of view. If I have an Unlimited account (master or reseller) and I have had it for say... two years, and also assume that I have sold 1000 accounts. Now each of those accounts uses 1g of resources. Wow.... that's 1 terabyte, right? Now in my case. I DID NOT sell hosting, I used the Master account for my own use. My opinion is simply this, If I do nothing that hogs system memory or cpu capacity, or otherwise diminishes the fair usage of server resources of others on the shared server, then NO AMOUNT of space or bandwidth should matter. And it never has until these Indian idiots... Just my two cents worth John
Thats just it, it does matter. CPU/RAM isn't the only restrictions on a shared server, disk space & bandwidth play a big role as well.
I understand but from my point of view, you are giving up quality for quantity. And as diligent pointed out - amount does matter Just because you are careful doesn't mean everyone else on that server is. You have idiots who will think unlimited exists, overload the server, and shut you down in the process temporarily if not forever. You are opening an ecommerce site and I can only guess it's to sell things and make money. My recommendation would be for you to increase your budget, go with a trusted host, get a reseller or go straight to a VPS. This will ensure the security of your site and keep it reliable. You haven't been burned yet by the oversellers, and you can't really too much further because your chances of getting burned increases over time. Thats why you see so many negative reviews about oversellers.
you should go to self managed dedicated servers...or fully managed is better than using reseller or maybe VPS
I found a really good looking promo offer for unlimited reseller hosting recently. Company looks pretty solid, I did some research. You can check it out here: http://www.creativhost.com/promo.php
