i have recently bought a SMF forum, from someone here on DP. I have sent the seller a PM asking for the u/n and p/w, but have not received a reply yet. i have gone into the mysql database, and found the section that lists the admin email, and hashed password. i have tried joining the site, using a different password, so i could just copy it into the admin section, but when i try to login it says i cannot retrieve my password, but i can set a new one, by following the link sent to my email. i changed the email in the admin section as well, in the hope that the email would come to my email address, but after 5 attempts, there has been no emails. can anyone please help me out with this problem.
    kind regards
    les

if your password its hasehed with a 32 chars md5() try change your password field into phpmyadmin db table
choose a password and before placing it into the field use this tool
http://www.miraclesalad.com/webtools/md5.php to merge your normal password into hashed

Changing the email and password for this account will not work as the script has some different security measures and you will always come up with an error.

One way I have found to work was to join the site and then go into the database and copy all the settings from the admin account and putting them into mine this way I would be turned into an administrator and then I just go into the administration menu and delete the other administrator account.

    Good Luck.

i read about doing it this way somewhere, but couldnt figure out how to do the changes, i have now found all the members details, and am trying to do the changes, sadly i have locked myself out, by flooding it with login attempts lol, will try again later, and let you know how i get on.
    cheers

joined the site through a proxy site, and made my self an admin, worked just fine, and i have learned quite a bit about databases in the process.
    cheers
