    Hello.

I am kinda new to Google things. So far I have studied that Google doesn't like paid backlinks. I may have miss-read it but if it is true how will Google know if it is a paid links? And If I miss-read or miss-understood the concept, can any 1 please explain what it really means?

    Many thanks for your time.

If you do it wisely, Google will not know of course. You can take John Chow as an example, he used to launch contest in order to build backlinks. And he succeeded for a while, getting the keyword "make money online" for very good ranking. But then his website lost all the ranking. It was apparent that he did the link building thing too much and google eventually found that out. Of course launching that contest was not identical to buying links but the nature is similar, in my opinion.

John Chow was not penalized because he bought links , he was penalized because he sold links.
Paid links has some characteristics , periodically changing links on a page etc other than that google is only bluffing.

If i was google i would have done this
"check for high pr pages to see whether they advertise for featured links or paid links etc
see whether the links on the page are related, if not then why would someone link to an unrelated site on his high PR page without compensation- simple logic - "

may be google has better ways, that is why i m not google

There are many phrases which indicate that a site is selling links.

Your ultimate aim is to keep it as natural as possible, so that Google doesn't smell a rat..
