Waiting for a solution
Cheapest and easiest way is to buy a floppy drive ... it's like $10 or so.... it'll save you the hassle.
yeah i know that but no computer store sells that in this town when i asked them they started to laugh
Go to some used computer store. You should find it there Or Go to bestbuy http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0926INGFS10049743&catid=20242 and its also an extrenal one so you can use it with your laptop also if you want.
Is the SATA recognized in BIOS ? Before you look at other options, you must ensure that BIOS / Hardware is able to recognize it, once Motheboard recognizes, you don't need floppy drive, your XP CD would work fine. I have 40GB IDE (Ultra ATA) and 250 GB SATA running, and had the problem with BIOS to get SATA drive working... HTH GS
1) Download nlite http://www.nliteos.com/ (free) 2) Download your SATA drivers 3) Slipstream the drivers into the XP installation with nlite 4) Get rid of Vista.. +rep if you feel appropriate. Don't buy a floppy drive to install a SATA drive, that's silly
I honestly think the problem will be something plainly as simple as Sata is set to RAID mode in the BIOS. Make sure the BIOS is set to 'Non-RAID', otherwise the only way to get it to install is with two hard disks with the RAID drivers to hand, which is obviously not what you want to do.
Default XP Installations don't have support for RAID controllers. This will cause problems whether or not RAID is enabled in the bios or not. Went through this exact same thing at my work... Luckily I found nLite and we were able to resolve the issue.
I also have 250 GB Sata, why u r worrying about HD drivers? there is no need for drivers for HD, just out a bootable DVD or cd of XP and set ur first boot device in bios to cd-drive or dvd drive
Hard drive drivers aren't the problem - it's the SATA/Raid controller that's causing the problem.. I don't believe that you got a SATA drive to work with an unmodified XP Professional installation CD.
XP will *not* recognise a Sata disk controllers if the motherboard is set to Sata RAID mode. End of story. I had this exact same problem 3 weeks ago and Sata RAID being enabled was the cause of XP not picking up the disk. Once that was set to disabled, XP found the disk during installation (without adding any other drivers for the sata controller) and all was fine, like a standard installation.
IF you are NOT using RAID function for SATA then there is no need of Installing third party drivers in XP, XP itself takes the required drivers from itself so Install XP with having Floppy disk
Actually most SATA/RAID drivers for XP need an floppy disk to install from. Even with SP2. Or you can integrate them with nLite.
