Hello Everyone, One of my friend is using premium account with Blue Host, last december I purchased a addon domain through his account and running wordpress blog. Please provide me some info about VPS ..How to set up. Bcoz "I dont want to take risk, If traffic increase my site will crash" Thanks
What are you looking for? Do you want to transfer your addon domain from your friends account to a new VPS? This should not be to tough of a task. Try getting a VPS that's managed, and they should be able to help you out, alternatively, you can look for an outsourced server manager to set things up for you and keep them running. Chris
I don't think you'll need a VPS for a wordpress new blog. Its a wise choice to use shared hosting first before move to VPS.
Continue using shared hosting, and download regular backups of your site. Regarding VPS information. Buy VPS when you need it. Prefer getting fully managed cPanel VPS with minimum 512 MB memory from a good company. Will come around 20-40$ per month.
wordpress is a mysql intensive application and if your traffic grows you need to keep fine tuning your server accordingly to get maximum performance out of it. If you are not experienced with handling VPS, stay on shared hosting as long as possible and when traffic goes up, migrate to a managed provider's VPS so that they can give you all assistance you might need.
Agree with Mentos, you don't need VPS for Blog. However if you have any other requirements you wanna share?
With your Bluehost premium account you should be able to host multiple domains in the same a/c. However, as you said there will be performance / CPU exceeded issues with shared hosting depending on how much traffic you get.
As others suggested, you do NOT need a VPS for your blog. (At least not now) I dont know about Blue Host but lots of reputed and "reason able" shared hosts can easily host your blog without giving you any performance issues. You can only get problem if you are using extensive plugins (or poorly codded ones) and getting high traffic. (5K-10K/day). Even then you can get Semi-Dedicated hosting and you wouldn't have to worry about server issues. If you cant handle/manage VPS, it's better to let Hosts worry about server issues and keep using reasonable shared hosting.
You can also consider to use cloud hosting which is getting more and more popular everyday. The advantage of cloud that you can easily increase your virtual server resources easily and in the future it can work as dedicated server, because it can generate the same performance.
You only need VPS if you have a really busy website. If you are worried, just move your domain to your own web hosting account. This way, you have full control over your account and if you see the needs, you can move to vps.
