I have a problem submiting my site's xml sitemap via webmaster tools.

It's getting that error message: Unsupported file format
Your Sitemap does not appear to be in a supported format. Please ensure it meets our Sitemap guidelines and resubmit

But i used vaildome.org and the results are listed below. Is it because my site is new, that i can't submit a sucessful sitemap?

If all else fails, download the xml and extract all the URLs inside of it. Save the URLs into a text file and then submit your map as a plain text file. I've had to do this in the past when getting a similar error.

I hired someone off elance to sort the problem. He said there was some problem with the source code or something.

He had fixed it and keywords were showing up in google webmaster tools, but they weren't that relevant. Just check the site map now, and it's gone back to the X. so bloody frustrating!

You really need to give us a link to your XML sitemap, so we can check it. Are you sure you submitted it as an XML sitemap? (You could also try create an XML sitemap with http://a1-sitemap-generator.com )

Also bear in mind that X is not just errors, but also warnings which are less problematic. A bad sitemapper tool may e.g. include URLs that may flag as duplicate warnings, e.g. example.com/ and example.com/index.html
