    Ok,

So my server arrived today and it's not managed so it was just a box with cPanel. The thing is I can't get my head round all this network stuff (IPs, Nameservers, hostnames lada yada lada) I am curious if anyone could possible have some spare time and good iTrader and help me out?.

    The main problem is this:
I have a domain (gxtournaments.com) and I am planning on hosting that, I understand you need a separate domain for the actual server so I plan on using GlobalXboxTournaments.com. The problem comes in when I have to configure the settings, the "A" entry button just does not want to help me out as it's showing an error and all this IP mumbo Hell

    Please/Thanks in advance.

    Regards,
    Jac Bowen

I can help you out if you have any specific questions...

Sounds like you need help setting up the nameservers first. Are you hosting the nameserver on your box or are you using your datacenter or another provider for that? If you are only hosting a few sites, I'd host the DNS externally to save you confusion and increase reliability (if the DNS is only hosted on your box, and the service goes down - your site does too).

The server is only for one site, so w/e is the easiest. Thank for reply btw.

What datacenter are you using? I would see if they offer DNS hosting services (many do for free.) You'll then need to set the zone up on their DNS server through their control panel and point your domain to their nameservers. The choice is up to you, but if you are running only one site there isn't much reason to set up your own DNS server just for that. Makes thing simpler.

My advice: Get a server management company. They cost about 20 bux a month. But I think you will only need someone to set up your host once write?

Ahh all done now :), thanks all for your help!

I won't be using it though as well... cPanel would not let me transfer (I own a forum) so I could not get SQL, it was to big to import and SSH was to confusing.
