    Hi Dudes,

I am planning to learn mainframes. Is it a valuable course or outdated ? I got this doubt when i saw the screen of the main frame.. Black screen and green font... Uff... When i saw i was totally disappointing. But i heard that mainframe can support 25,000 users at a time and 70% of data on the planet residing in mainframes and main frames has never been hacked by any one so far. It is really amazing.

Please give me the correct guidance on my training plan:confused:.

Mainframes? Are you serious? Search Dice.com and let me know how many mainframe positions are available. I am going to guess zero and none. It is archaic technology, but it is not going away anytime soon. Most are either in maintenance or being phased out. For those companies where migration is not an option, they are extending and levering the mainframes via applications developed using Java-J2EE or .NET technologies. I recently completed a project where I had to communication with a mainframe, but it was through a message broker. The client had to hire a "retired" programmer to develop some of the integration modules. A "retired" programmer to maintain the mainframe. Classic! :D
