I need some advice on Iphone

    Hello DPers,

I plan to start a website on Iphone. I would like to ask would it be okay if I had the domain name as something like "www.Iphoneblog.com"? Is this against any rules/ legal issues to have the word "Iphone" as a part of my domain name?

Also if its possible to make such a blog, how and where can I get pictures of Iphones on that blog. Again, will it be against any rules?

Any valuable advices will be appreciated.

    Paul

I think it boils down to in what you're doing with this blog. If you're just posting unique content like with any ordinary blog (i.e. health supplements) then I see why there would be any further cautionary steps to take. Iphone is a big brand but still.

To be on the safe side, you should put up a disclaimer on your web "iPhone is a registered trademark of Apple"

Ditch the domain. Its ok to have the word iphone or pictures in your blog but dont forget to include the disclaimer!

When you follow the above suggestion, what you are doing is actually referring to the product, not integrating it into your brand (ie the domain you mention)

I think that the word iPhone is copywritted... Im not really sure if they can sue you from using their phone name to your website.

"iphone" is a trademark owned by Apple. Do not use it in a domain name unless you want to risk having the domain taken or being sued. A disclaimer isn't going to help.

good question, tbh i havnt seen a copywright on the word iphone and if there was i recon apple would of bought most of the domains to do with the iphone...
content i dont think is also a problem because at the end of the day you are saying good things about it and infomation about it etc

First, you don't copyright names - you trademark them.

A trademark holder is under no obligation to register available domain names - they already own the rights to the term for their usage.

Saying "good things" doesn't give you a pass on trademark infringement and many, many lawsuits have been filed against such sites.

Yeah apple could take any domain that includes the name iphone in it, no matter what it's being used for.

Those are trademark infringement. You can't use a company name or trademark in a domain that is going to have anything to do with the company or the type of usage that they are in.
