    Hi!

I'm studying web design with plans to have a go at being a freelancer.
I intend on setting up a website to sell web design packages/templates and possibly resell web
    hosting.
I'm getting bogged down in all the conflicting info out there about paypal/moneybookers etc..I'm just
    so confused.

The amount of complaints against paypal make me not want to use them(especially after a relative
got ripped off by them when she was ebaying).

I don't have much startup cash. Actually i'm on a shoestring budget.(I estimate I could get away
with $1500 startup expenses). So I can't really afford the merchant gateways fees. I'm assuming
to get a internet merchant number/bank merchant account would cost a few hundred bucks. (Do the
fees vary around the world?) I live in australia.

What options do I have to offer seamless payment on my websites as an australian?
Is it possible to use 1 kind of payment process on multiple websites/domains under 1 account?eg 1 paypal account
used on different sites or 1 account with a merchant account used on multiple sites?
    Is digibuy anygood?

I'm thinking of using digibuy or paypal. and using either cubecart/zencart.

    Any help is appreciated.

    thanks,
    arcanus

Well, there are a lot of scams on ebay and you need to comply fully with Paypal/eBay terms in order to get protected.

If you are offering virtual products, the worst that could happen is that you lose a virtual copy of your product which effective means that there is no real lost. With products, you lose the actual cost of the product being offered.

Paypal is a nice platform and it is readily used. If you get your account verified and do it right and comply with Paypal, you should do fine. There will be some bad hats but as long as you do your due diligences, you should be okay.

Well, you do not need to use a merchant account, there are 3rd party payment processor like 2checkout.com , plimus.com , kagi.com and the likes which can be considered. With the exception of 2checkout, all are free to sign up and all basically take a cut for commission only when there is a sale.

    Hi,

Have you check out Payloadz with Paypal for digital sales...

It is comparatively easy to set up with the combination.

You don't need an internet merchant number from the bank. Basically when you sign up for payloadz account... the registration will ask for your paypal email address...if I have remembered the process correctly.

After the registration, you can set up products to sell by uploading your digital product onto the payloadz server. There are several payment option... I chose a 15% commission cut to payloadz for every sales made. You do not have to pay anything if you do not sell anything.. with this scheme. This is what I like about them.

You can sell your products on their site and/or on your website via a specially generated link that will bring the customer to a paypal payment process.

The customer gets to download the product after payment. Basically, all is done for you... the sales money will go straight into your paypal account. At the end of each week, payloadz will automatically deduct the comission from your paypal account, if there are sales made in that week.

    hope that helps

interesting. So it essentially helps in the "instant downloadable" product range.

    thanks :)

Wouldn't it be cheaper to use paypal? or isn't paypal helpful in the digital downloads dept.?

    thanks

You can of course create a Buy Now button then the Success URL, you put that to a page on your web site which contains information of how to download the files.

Alternatively, just deliver the item manually via email.

If you have a Premier or Business account, take a look at the IPN support, you should be able to integrate that to a script on your server to deliver the contents.
