I'm considering using affiliate marketing as a way to supplement (not replace) my current income. Frankly, all I want to do is make enough money to pay off some old bills that I owe. To do so, I'll need about $8000 by the end of the year, which works out to roughly $1000/month. Now here's what I need to know: what kind of time/money investment would be needed to pull down those kind of numbers? What products would be best to promote? Is PPC the only way to go, or should I focus on SEO? And if I DO focus on SEO, how long, realistically, would it be before I could expect to turn a profit, given that you can't exactly climb the search engine rankings overnight? I want to be clear, I'm not asking anybody for their money-making secrets, I just need some start-up guidance from people who won't waste my time by telling me I can make $10k a day just by buying their e-book.
Your question would require pages and pages to answer and would represent 1000s of hours of reading. But I can say that SEO takes a long time and lasts a long time. PPC is instant, but you have to put some work into analysing your traffic to figure out where you are winning and losing. The worst part of PPC is that all that analysing is not 'real work', and after a few months of it you start thinking "I could have put all that energy into SEO". PPC has it's place, but it's a serious ride, and if you're not careful, can waste a lot of money.
The cheapest and fastest way to go about it would be: Figure out what you want to sell as an affiliate Figure out the profile of your target buyers: What are they interested in? How are they historically marketed to online? Where do they congregate online? Find these areas Market without being spammy Rinse and repeat I made over $10,000 during my first 2 months being an affiliate marketer without owning: a website, a domain, etc. In fact, I didn't even have any COSTS at all. All I had was the information regarding WHERE my target audience were and HOW they communicate/HOW to talk to them. Building websites to sell stuff is just ONE way to sell stuff online. There are many many other ways. Your only limit is your imagination. If anyone wants more free coaching, just PM me.
If you want to make money online you need to understand what internet environment is all about first. You need to get the sense of it to make some good decision. And to do that I suggest you sign up for any newsletter that will give you free ebooks or free reports as incentive. sign up for 10 to 20 newsletter. don't buy anythings at this time. read those free materials and check out your emails everyday. do that for 1 to 2 months. from that experience hopefully you know what is best for you.
You'll find from reading the newsletters, I believe, that establishing a budget first before getting into and PPC campaigns, will help you. Of course, if your product/service is exceeding your expectations and you are making good ROI, that budget can always be revised.
