I Need Photographic Inspiration

I am an amateur photographer (link in my signature). To be honest, I've run out of things to shoot.

I work with a Nikon D40 and both a 18-55mm and 55-200mm lens, both capable of macro shots.

So, give me an idea - and if I decided to shoot it, +Rep for you ;).

Here is an example of my photographs:

I don't have much patience for photography like th rest of my family, I'm more into design, but I sure love good photography.

I really like macro shots because it's opening your eyes up to the world of things *just* barely too small to see with your eyes alone. It's so wonderful and mysterious and familiar all at the same time.

I'd love to walk through a gallery of giant hi-rez photos of everyday objects seen in macro, it'd be AMAZING!

Macro photography is great fun. Get out in the garden and chase some bugs and lizards :)

I think all your photos are real nice.... I like them...

    My comments:
You might want to shoot those pictures that represent winning, success, failure, service excellence and so on, instead of shooting animals, houses, nature and so on. This is because you could sell these photos! However, many people will be looking those that I listed (i.e. winning, success, failure, service excellence and so on) instead of those landscape or nature photos.

Thank you to everyone for your pictures, comments, and appreciation. You have all been given +Rep from me, because you've given me the idea of making a small macro-studio for my work. I really appreciate it, everyone.

I just finished this makeshift macro studio and I've taken several pictures. I am about to post 3 of them on my site, then I will show all of you.

    Stay tuned ;)

ooooh I like that dollar coin!

    it's worth ~ 1.01 canadian dollars!

man I remember going to the US when the exchange rate was like half of that. it was brutal let me tell ya! Half of my family is american (mom's side and sister live there now).

anyway, I'm on a silly tangent. Nice photos, where are the other 48?

The other 48 have fallen into the Photography/Feb 22/Originals/Macro folder in the abyss that is my hard drive. I usually post maybe 1-2 pictures for every 100 I take, that is if they are not staged (like this set).

Pictures can go wrong in so many ways with macro. Bad depth of field. Lighting is off. Blurry. Camera shake. Ect...

Example of a discarded image from this set:

you know what sounds really really sad but is totally true? let me tell you a story....

I borroed my sister's digital SLR for my college photography class. I let her use my lil konica in the meantime of course. I took all the photos for the final gallery print and then I accidently lost her 1gb memory card. I had to borrow another girl's camera just to finish the class. I felt really really bad for losing my sister's memory card (her other one was 16mb) so I bought her a 2gb card to replace it.

Then, later after I had said sorry, borrowed another girls camera, submitted my photos and all of that, I found my sister's 1gb card, and all my pictures for the final project, now long passed. :( oh well, not she's got a good 3gb to deal with hehehe

Heh. My girlfriend supports my photography completely. She even spent $250 to buy me a lens for no reason whatsoever.

    So awesome.

Great photos DomGatto :) What are you using for lighting?

I did some coin macros a while ago and couldn't get the light right. I ended up going outside and putting the coins on a white plate in the sun

    Thank you ;).

I used a regular desk lamp. Basically, I put down a sheet of white computer paper, then bended the edges of 2 other sheets to make a mini-studio for macro uses. Then I placed a white sheet over the light itself to avoid harsh shadows.

It's good for the 90% of photographers that don't have the money or the space for their own studio. Quick and easy.
