I am having trouble uploading a sitemap to my hosting server. I have created a sitemap using http://www.auditmypc.com/free-sitemap-generator.asp The problem is, when I upload it to my "home" where it says "index" and "index entrance", it takes a very long time to upload, and it uploads in the directory msdazzlebackgrounds/apps In google webmaster, i don't know what to put, when i put msdazzlebackgrounds.com/sitemap.xml, it says there is an error. Please can anyone help me who is knowledgeable about this? I have been trying to do this and I am very stressed.

I tried uploading the sitemap to a file hosting website, and putting a link in my homepage to the file, but it does not work.

Anyone with detailed intructions and not links to other websites?
    Thanks.

Are you using FTP or filemanager?

It is really a lot easier to use an ftp program. If you use Firefox there is a free ftp plugin but my favourite is FileZilla. You can use xmlsitemaps to create a map then save it to your local hard drive. Then open ftp prog select the file, copy and paste to where you want it. Hope this helps.

I use filezilla too, but I ask why use a generator to create a sitemap, why not just use some tutorial and adobe dreaweaver?

Thanks for helping me, I downloaded filezilla. Because I have alot of pages in my website, thats why I used the sitemap generator, and I saw other people using it in this forum.

You cannot implement a script into your website until you have filezilla or a ftp account from hosting service, you can't just do that manually.

I got an error for this General HTTP error: 404 not found
We encountered an error while trying to access your Sitemap. Please ensure your Sitemap follows our guidelines and can be accessed at the location you provided and then resubmit.

I did everything right. I used a sitemap generator, uploaded it via ftp, but the link I put in my index page looks like this
    <br><a href="msdazzlebackgrounds.com/apps/home/sitemap.xml" class="maintext">sitemap</a></br>

    What should I do?

I advice you to google support center and search about sitemaps. Try manually, with dreamweaver ready and google sitemap tutorial and create your site map. Try it manually because you will learn something and when problems persist you can handle it better.
