Hi people, I have 2 kittens who are intent on running into places they are not allowed. Partlicularly behind the tv to chew cables. Does anyone know of any methods to stop them going there? I have blocked it up but they still get in somehow!! Thanks
Umm, put them in a box - You could try spending time with them so they don't need to go over there, or put water on them when they go somewhere that there not meant to
Give them a tight spank, of course just make sure it is painful but don't hurt them, kittens are very feeble. Make sure that they understand that such actions brings about painful consequences, they will know after one or two lessons.
Kittens/Cats have far more character than dogs, they are quite stubborn, certainly not as easy to train as dogs. Dogs want to please you, kittens/cats can't care the less...
Exactly. I knew a lady who had 14 kittens and I knew a lady who had 1 dog. I always felt the latter had more love in the house
Spraying them with a bit of water does deter them from going places they should not go. Cats hate to get wet
we have had cats for close to 15 years now, all of them started out with us as kittens. water works wonders, they do not like it. a little spritz here and there and they'll get the message.
you have to spray them but not let them know where the water is coming from, so they associate going behind the tv or whatever with getting wet. it doesnt work on my cats though, theyre little bitches too
I would cut some pieces of cardboard to fit snugly into the areas and block entry. Also, as far as the chewing goes, there are sprays that you can buy that will keep cats from chewing on things. I got mine at Petsmart (it was caled "Bitter End"). My kittens kept chewing on my computer's speaker cables. You spray the cables with the product and when the kittens chew them it tastes bad and they learn to stop. Just be patient. Good luck.
Wow. I couldn't disagree more. They aren't going to know why you're hurting them. DON'T spank or hit them.
Hide behind the TV, as they come spray them with lots of water. Now they knows why you sprayed on them..heheh... Kidding.. I never had a cat, nor I know much about them.
Thanks for all the answers - some more useful that others lol. I think I will try the water method again. Last time they loved the water and were trying to chase it, maybe now they are getting bigger they may dislike it. It is a bit awkward though as there is a lot of electric there. Will have to see. THanks again
Try to restrict the access of the kittens to places (behind your TV etc.) by suitably placing some blocks.
lol They will grow out of it soon enough. My kittens are almost 1 year old and they stopped chewing things like that a few months ago. But just keep shouting at them and moving them when they go somewhere they arn't allowed, they learn eventually. Water works with some kittens, but if yours are anything like mine then they will just enjoy it (no idea why but my kittens like water/rain)
Thanks again peeps. We have blocked it off with cushions. One thing we did find that works is orange or lemon peel - cats hate citrus apparently and the smell of it deters them. Only lasts a day though!! Cheers again
