I need help with my keywords and hope some of you would help me please. I need help with the logic of selecting good keywords. Question 1: For my homepage, do I select high traffic keywords, or easy to rank keywords? I assume Long-tail keywords (LTK) are left for articles/content pages and the likes, right? Question 2: For my homepage, do I select more broad keywords like: "car manufacturer" and then use LTK (lower volume) keywords like "American car manufacture" or "American car manufacturer in Dallas" on content pages or articles? Question 3: Singular/Plural. I think Google identifies between "women" and "woman" for example. In selecting keywords, does this matter or will Google figure it out. OR, do i go with the high volume or low volume keywords - example if the plural gets more traffic, go with the plural. When I refer to high volume, I refer to highly competitive... and visa versa. I really want to know if I must be broad on the homepage and more focused on the content pages. More broad will make it harder to rank on the homepage. Please help, Justin
You basically answered your questions correctly. Question 1: Have high traffic keywords so you can get cached/indexed more for those words. IMO, LTKs are for content pages/posts/articles, etc. Question 2: I would be broad on the homepage, and include all the targetted keywords. You don't need to say "american car manufacturer in Dallas" - I would just say american car manufacturer (or.. whatever keyword you are trying to rank high with) Question 3: I could be wrong, I don't think it matters. Are you talking about, for example, writing: Car Manufacturers or Car Manufacterer? Don't think it matters - I could be wrong here, however.
I agree...optimize for the popular keywords on the homepage copy and in the Title Tag. Add additional pages of unique content to beef up the site and then add a page a day of unique copy to keep them coming back for more.
