I need help with info on driving traffic to my site.

I am new to online marketing, and also new to using computers as well, just bought my first home pc less than a year ago.

I work very long hours at my real job installing production machinery, and am often gone for many days or weeks at a time installing equipment, and when I am at our shop, I work from early in the morning to late at night helping to assemble and test the equipment. I have most weekends off if I am not very far from home, and this time is valuable to spend with my kids.

I also don't have much money available to pay for advertising, about $500 at the most. I make good money at my job, but after child support for 4 kids, other divorce related financial obligations, and my own monthly bills I don't have much left over.

It seems to me that most of the methods for driving large amount of traffic to a site require several hours to be spent every day to do so.

I recently joined a cash gifting program, and am needing to get traffic to my site. I personally know a few people who are successful at this, but they are doing it full-time. I need to get to the point where I can do that myself, and be home with my kids.

Does anyone know of any method where I could spend time over a weekend or a few days getting it started that would then work on its own to drive traffic to my site without it having to be maintained on a daily basis? Also that is fairly inexpensive and cost effective for me.

While I am lacking in time, money and skill, I have the mindset to succeed and am willing to learn everything that I can to make this happen. I just need some resources to do so. I am a fast learner, but I am overwhelmed right now, there seems to be so many methods that I know so little about.

I have started a blog, but am still working on it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yup, use social media networks like digg.com to submit your web pages and if it is interesting you will get lots of free traffic!

Well... I'm afraid there is no practical idea for you. If running a web site is that easy, everyone in this forum would no longer expend energy on getting traffic.

Since you don't have much time on your site, I suggest you forget the "cash gifting program", just consider this like an interest, and have fun. Or maybe... ask your kids for help :)

there's really no quick and easy way to do it. one thing you could do it use databases to post your site to. if you download programs such as addweb8 and adblaster (both of which you will need to pay for to use effectively *sorry*), they can be set on autopilot to continually send out the info about your site, but thats only one part of getting traffic. aside from hiring an outside company/person to do this for you, i'm not sure how much you could do if you dont have much time to dedicate to it.

I hate to be a messenger of bad news, but after reading your post, it doesn't seem you can succeed with your circumstances. Time is especially critical. You don't have to spend every waking moment, but if you can't spend at least an hour a day on a new site, it will be tough. Only a site that is well established or has big bucks to spend on advertising, has the luxury to let their site ride as is -- but then again the competition these days are fairly keen so anyone who sits on a lead my find their site being over come if they are not careful.

Sorry, I wish I had a quick get traffic scheme for you, but the truth is there is none. With that said, don't fall prey to those who will promise you the world if you spend the bucks, but always fall short of their promises.

    Good luck

If you know nothing of computers or internet marketing, and have no spare time I would suggest getting into something. It sounds like you are a smart guy and make good money in your real job, and my suggestion would be to persue that. Internet marketing is not the get rich quick endeavor that ebooks make it out to be.

focus on building a good site which has lots of relevant content which is keyword rich, then focus on getting high quality inbound links from relevant sites.

Honestly, you'll spend 4 hours a day working your butt off on this, and at the end of the day you'll make $300 a month.

It's just not worth it. I say spend this time with your kids, or if you are hard up for money, get a part time job, or better yet, find something that you are already good at, like painting, woodworking, whatever.

Making money on the internet is not easy money - in my opinion, it's often harder than a traditional job. I could certainly make more per hour mowing grass than what I do online.

Well, since you are starting a blog... might as well promote your articles in different article directories like ezinearticles or goarticles. I would also suggest maintaining 2-3 social sites like myspace, facebook or tribe.

I know that I will not get rich quick doing this, I already expected it to take at least a year or more to be profitable, but I really do not want to stay at my current job too much longer. While the money is very good, and I am a frugal spender, I still can't seem to get ahead. I have looked for another job where I can stay home more, but there is nothing I can find that would pay even half of what I make now. The long hours away led to my divorce- she found someone else to sleep with when I was gone. I just can't stand being gone for weeks at a time away from my kids and girlfriend. I really want to work from home, and make more than what I am now. I know there are people doing it and that it can be done.

I know that this will not come easy or right away, but I personally know someone who is making a 6 figure income doing this, also working some viral system, and selling e-books. He claims the cash gifting program is where he makes the most money. The only things he has over me are his inheritance money, more time, and he has been playing with computers longer than I have. He is not dumb, but I would definitely rate him well below average IQ wise, so I have a big advantage there. I figured if he can do this, I can to. I have the determination, and am a fast learner, just need to learn more about this, not sure where to start.

I have pondered this a bit and think that I have enough credit with Dell to get a laptop, and most of the hotels I go to have Wi-Fi, so that may be a solution to give me a bit more time to work on this on a more frequent basis. Even though we are usually working 12-18 hour days when installing equipment, I could probably spend at least an hour or two most nights.

Oh and also everyone else, much thanks for the tips and info, I will have to start researching these ideas.

I have made attempts at persuading my girlfriend to help, she is smart and and has great computer skills, but she does not have much interest and lacks the motivation that I have. That is what I get for going out with someone nearly half my age. :D

I'm going to be completely honest with you, and I say that because what I have to say may come off as being harsh, but I'm really saying it to benefit you, if you are willing to look deeper into yourself.

Your entire life is based on a faulty assumption: "I have the mindset to succeed"

Based on everything you said, I would say, no, you don't have the mindset to succeed. You think you do, and that's your biggest stumbling block. Your success online has very little to do with how well you're going to be able to drive traffic to your site, and much more to do with how you're going to manage the incongruencies between what you say you want and what your actions are revealing.

Before you even think about how to drive traffic to your site, you need to get hold of your priorities in your life. There are a multitude of issues going on here, and my first impulse is to tell you that if you think the Internet is going to save you from your day job without having to work for it, you're dead wrong.

Do yourself a huge favor and check out the information that Rich Schefren has to offer. I can tell you straight up, after spending 3 weeks with him in his GPS program, he's completely shattered every misconception I had about myself and my online business, and it had nothing to do with how I was making money on the Internet and everything to do with how I was thinking. He could do the same for you, but it's not cheap. http://strategicprofits.com

so be patient. I just helped a friend whose teenage child went missing in Orlando.

One of the family friends had a huge following in facebook. In 2 days i had over 1/2 million views for the site.

Google index the site in less than 24 hours, after I wrote them and told them the teenager was abducted.

    the site was helpfindkatherinehill

Why don't you have your friend show you step by step of what he is doing to make the six figure income! Honestly, I would have to agree with magicinthedesert and terrymason. There is nothing free or easy in live. Through hard work can you make money online...yes. But, it takes a lot of hard work, planning, and to be completely honest a little bit of luck now and than!
