I am like every other American and I am looking for the best most kick ass laptop but that is also cheap$200-$600. :)
This will be my first laptop and I don't know anything about them and I don't really care.I just want it to run fast have lots of room and be able to burn cds and everything else.I have all the newer updated software so that should save me some money.

I heard (on the News) :Dthat the price of laptops is going to drop dramatically soon.
Has anyone heard the same thing? :)

Anyway :D My question is what is the best laptop under $600?

Under $600 isn't going to get you much. Gateway, Acer are lower brands while Toshiba, HP and Dell are higher ($800-$1100). Spend a little bit more and get a better computer like a Toshiba.

Take a look at the recent flood of cheap, mini laptops.

Theres the HP Mini Note PC that starts at under $600 and comes with either linux or windows.

Then there's the upcoming dell mini. Hasn't been officially announced yet, but it's cool. Google it.

Fry's usually has a Toshiba or Compaq for 499. Usually AMD with 2Gb of RAM and about 150-250 GB HD. DVD writer. I bought the Compaq last year from Staples with 1 GB RAM. Cost me 479 and it works great. Of course I am not a gamer so don't need all the bells and whistles.

I would suggest a compaq, if you want a nicer brand, but referbished, usanotebooks.com. I have one from their, and it works like new.

Well I am not advocating a specific brand. But I have a HP dv6700t and it rocks. As per internet ratings HP is far ahead of dell.

I would pay a little more and get a Dell.

Otherwise, read some reviews online before you buy.
