I need help adding my sitemap

    I swear that Google is set up to frustrate us like college where nobody can give you exact instructions and answers. I have created my sitemap and put the file in the public_html folder on my server. Now exactly what link do I submit in my webmaster tools that point to that file? I get an error message every time. This is the file that I enter into the field and then click 'submit sitemap'. What am I doing wrong? Please help.

    use google webmaster tool. It will solve your problem.

    go to google webmaster tool. there you can say path and u just add sitemap.xml extra after your website url
    like www.inmate-connection.com/sitemap.xml

    in bold url is already give you. you have to just add sitemap.xml

    the most probable problem that you might have been facing might be this:

    (it's my own mind, plz correct me if i'm wrong)

    According to me you are trying to add 

    http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/download/www.inmate-connection.com/sitemap.xml
    Code (markup):
    This sitemap.xml file directly to Google's Webmaster Tools.. in some weird or bizzarre way..

    But that is not actually how it goes.. you need to download that file from http://xml-sitemaps.com and then upload it to your own server.. make sure that file is accessible at root eg. http://yoursitename.com/sitemap.xml
    (any other directory will also do.)

    in your Webmaster tools account follow the instructions given by ekajanabee4u above.

    they are working pretty much well, you can try some free alternatives also, just search down here in DP with accurate keywords..:)

    The part in bold should already appear on the screen by default..
    http://www.inmate-connection.com/

    All you have to do is add:
    sitemap.xml

    at the end, abd then click Submit Sitemap..

    Make sure the file exists on server.. enjoy!

    You might want to read these xml sitemap submit tutorial :) It discusses both how to use robots.txt but also has links to Google Webmaster Tools, Yahoo Site Explorer etc.
