I would use the sidebar for any google adsense ads and probably place one under the navbar too. I am sure there is some plugins for WP that can do this automatically for you too.

You could try some adsense within your blogs posts too, like after the posts or before them too.

 

Use Adsense text links ads above or below your own links (lables, blog rolls, categories). 4 link text ads has bigger font than 5 links, so choose the one that match your site font size. I have written about it in my blog.

 

You are building an article directory?

To make good money from adsense, a person needs to get lot of targeted traffic. And the most targeted and free traffic comes from search engines.

Unfortunately, you will face duplicate content problems if you build an article directory. I have seen some directories that have changed their policy and they now only allow unique articles to be added in their site. May be you should also do this so that you can get organic traffic and to avoid duplicate problems.

 

Adsense has different policy for article directories, make sure you checkout their guidelines for article directories before you jump into the niche.
