I have a absolutely different idea for a website and i know that will be unique so before launching i want a copyright power that stops every one to make a similar site till a time period. Is it possible please reply, My blog is http://fillsout.blogspot.com/
I doubt that you could copyright any sort of website because there is no way to register something worldwide in that manner.
Sorry, Robinsh123, but you can't stop this from happening. Not even authors can stop this from happening to their books. All material, both off and online, have similarities. Besides, I would not worry about it too much. I have found that the ones who copy off of one another have piss-poor traffic anyway. The bottom line is, you have to learn how to be a good advertiser, promoter.
OK it may vary which country you are in but in general yes you can copywrite a website, you can copyright the content and the design anybody who tells you other wise is wrong (country providing) What you cannot copyright is your idea. You can only copywrite something that exists and is proveable. an idea may exist but is not proveable. You could start by copywriting your business plan and all literature relating to the project. It may not be fireproof, but at least it's on paper and proveable. Remember you have to be able to prove dates etc. Easiest way is an unopened regsitered mail envelope (containg the documents). Registered gives you the proof of date.
You automatically have copyright on the content of your site. However, if you wanted to stop the concept you either need to have an idea so unique you can patent it, or if it's a brand thing trademark it.
U.S. Copyright Office FAQ Mailing to yourself is not very useful. Especially because the court can't trust that you didn't forge the postmark, reopen the package, or reseal it with your fancy security tape later. For maximum protection, properly register your copyrights and trademarks. If you don't know how to do that, there are lawyers who do. Also keep in mind that you're hoping that someone who would steal your web site will obey some kind of law. You're worried about whether a thief will obey laws. If someone does it, you'll be dealing with someone who is trying to steal your web site and your business. Good luck trying to figure out where the line is which that person will not cross. But then, what is your protection against someone with a lot more funding going after your business and creating a good web site which is not a copy? Just do the best you can, make it easy for customers to find you, and hope you keep getting repeat business.
