hey, just launched a new wp blog entitled http://www.melvinblog.com/. This blog is pretty just a personal blog and/or something about money making online... i got everything paid, the theme, domain and hosting.. i need some critique or some things to improve.,,, thanks..
I had a look with fx, I assume it is the right hand column (where it says "Subscribe via Email"). This is below the content. Other then that I love the color scheme.
The page layout could be better, the column that says Subscribe via Email looks out of place, it would look better if it was directly below your body text.
the sidebar on firefox is below the content and i think that the theme is not matching with the subject: money making online.
The general impression from a site good, but is above what to work. Some errors on internal pages have been found, I recommend you to check up all once again, and fix all errors
Your color scheme is good, but the sidebar is pushed down for me, in firefox. When I had this problem for my blog, I had to search for quite a while (and all I use is the default theme, btw). I found out that sometimes you have to adjust for "narrow" columns (as in, for your page.. in the css) rather than the standard set up. If you google "wordpress sidebar being pushed down" that should get you some fixes Another thing, I'd like to see "Hi I'm Melvin" and maybe a photo or something.. hook me and don't let me think "oh another random person's blog about their life". Those aren't bad but with so many, I end up reading none. Hope this helps!
Like other people have mentioned, fix the sidebar! Firefox/Opera usage is growing. Don't alienate the market which might make you money $$$. As people become more "net-savvy" they start using Firefox (or Opera), for example, and then look on at making money online. But stay at your page for a few seconds because the layout is is broken. You might want to take a more fluid approach with the css than fixed width or experiment with the widths, padding and margins until you get it right. GlowStormLion seems to have come up with something - ditch "the melvin blog" and have a cartoon image of someone with a speech bubble coming out which includes the text "Hi, I'm Melvin!". That would be pretty cool and fit in with the current theme (which is pretty good, mate). What's interesting about the post there is you're honest about your mistakes. A blunt approach is what may help make people want to read what you write and come back to read more. Good luck. +1 to GSL for his good ideas.
Thanks, ryan_uk! I have to pitch in and agree about the Firefox issue. I started out using Netscape Navigator years ago, then switched finally to Internet Explorer. I knew IE had a ton of problems and I just let it ride for years, getting all kinds of hassles from that browser. Finally I got a newer PC that had Firefox installed and gave in to the pestering from my geekier friends. It's a serious improvement and now the only time I fire up IE is to test how my site's look in that browser. Just a bit to give you an idea of where Firefox users might be coming from
I like the skin but there's a little problem with Internet Explorer... the sidebar appears at the very bottom instead of right :/
hey many many thanks... but guys in my pc (i use firefox) my sidebar isn't pushed down? and it looks all fine.. however some of my friends were saying its pushed down... ???
