Is there a simple script out there for this?

Or is there a good free site that can do it for me ? maybe easier :)

I am using http://www.unialert.com myself. It sure is nice and they SMS me whenever my server is down.

Hosting such a script on your VPS does not do any good because if your VPS is down, the chances are the monitoring script will also be down so you will not get any alert. Of course unless it is set to alert you each time the server is up then that is another matter altogether ;)

siteuptime looks good, but free is only for one domain.

if you have a vps, shouldnt mon be included? You might want to check with your providor, because usually there is something already available on the server.

I would still do the siteuptime, but it's always good to have more than one monitor, since it never fails the time your site goes offline is the time there site has a problem and can't alert you.

    CatYack,

Then the one for you is basicstate.com, there are NO limits. Make sure you check out the list of the big guns using the service. They know a good deal when they see one. :D

Anyone tried http://mon.itor.us? It's a startup, AJAX-based, I heard in some sites that it's good. I plan to try them out soon myself.
