Hi, I created a social-bookmarking web project last week and developing with feedbacks from my friends from my ex-university's news group. http://www.hizlibalik.com (Fast Fish in Turkish) It's been a week but people liked it, I got many positive feedbacks. People liked it because when no one sends something I try my best and send many posts. I want to develop this further in terms of web 2.0 concepts. I'll provide content even no-one will so keep interest of users warm. My offer to a foreign investor: * Give me a chance for 1 year, invest me. I want to run a one man company in Istanbul (or anywhere in world). We'd be %50 for the profits and all future-value of the company. What's the advantage for investing? * Turkish internet sector is growing everyday, with BW and economy of Turkey. * There are limited original local applications today. People need such web sites. Being first is a great advantage some years later. Will this be only a social bookmarking app? * No I plan many web 2.0 (and some web 3.0) layers and sub-applications. What do I need? * Please send a mail to tolga {AT} su.sabanciuniv.edu Shortly: 1 year financial support (salary, tax, etc), and 1 year rental for the office needs, advertisement in Adwords, technical improvements if needed like PVS or dedicated. Tolga
Meanwhile: In Turkish internet sector, there're 10M unique users and 4 mbps internet, there are some million dollar web-companies around. Being first in such a growing sector would be really advantegous. Tolga
Yeah trust. But where's a detailed list of the so called needs? Exactly how much is needed for servers and does the site even warrant a dedicated server yet? Why do you have to have an office? And they are to pay your salary? Given that, what exactly is it you are contributing? I mean if you did it for 50%, that's one thing. But if investors pay you, why would you get a %?
shallowink OK, for a personal company it's OK I may need no office. Today the project doesn't need a dedicated for sure. I'll be coding and creating the value. I have other ideas. %50 is for that. Meanwhile: Things go that way in this sector. StumbleUpon to Google, Youtube to other many projects were created with such an investment. When investors provided financial support, some part were as salary so that developers can survive. After all these startup owners divided the shares of the companies. They didn't say "Hey Larry!, we gave you salary! You don't have a share on Google's profits!!!". Today they have a share. You're underestimating the role of the creator and what you say is the unwanted type of capitalism from the eyes of a developer world.
I'm not underestimating anyone. But if you have been doing any type of development work, these types of deals are offered every 15 seconds where someone has a great idea but..... You have put in effort before hand and I wouldn't imply you shouldn't be entitled to a lion's share of the potential profits. I would advise you to detail what you need and when you need it. Document it and have it ready to show to potential investors that you are serious about developing the project. And I would probably divide up the offer, a single investor is ok but having 2 or 3 could be more realistic.
but you still want money from tthe capitalists? in venture capital business the companies most need to fund 10-20 companies to get one success company. they will not be happy with only getting 50% in success case i think. depends on outcome of course. if invest is 1 mill, i think that a success company must pay back at least 30-40 mill
Hey, thanks for your comments firstly. Well, I have a project and I see a good future. Even noone helps me I believe in long run step by step it'll be in a successfull position. My offer is simple to anyone (ifever really cares) "Speed up the growth of the project, I'll give you %50 of share". It's that simple. Well, the problem is mostly trust I guess. In Turkey several people asked how to. Most of them know me well. You don't know me. You don't know Turkish. You can't understand the content of the project. So that you suspect the future of it. I guess that's point and I think it's very normal and I understand & respect it. Again thanks for all comments.
