Hi! I have about 1-2K to lying surplus. I first thought of starting a social networking site but then decided against it. What website could i start in my budget? Any ideas of how i could generate money?? Or should I stick to the Social Network? IF yes any ideas how i could make it unique? +rep for all useful posts...... Thank You

Have you ever considered investing into something? You could invest into something you like, for example a social bookmarking website, hosting business, etc -- write up a plan for how you want to be re-paid, what percentage of ownership, etc. Then confront a smaller, emerging community or business and ask if they are interested in a possible investment.
you can hire a developer/designer like me (now this is marketing ) who could set up numerous sites for you! discussion forums, yahoo/google groups, social networking sites, video galleries and so on. and when you know what site is getting you more profit, you can concentrate on promoting that site only. Niche membership sites are hot. Grab a good domain and add some quality content. Create an effective landing page. You could flip it for a good profit or take the recurring income.
If you have surplus money invest it in buying a developed website. Look at DP and Sitepoint for developed sites (There are lot of sites with big budgets) If you try to develop a new website, it will take more time.. Time is valuable than money. So better buy a developed site..
