    Well wordpress is the best open source blog software aroud.
    The fact that you don't want to use it but don't give any reasons why doesn't help very much.

    I agree with above. WordPress is probably the best for blogging. If you need something more powerful, try Drupal (www.drupal.org).

    You could learn PHP and try to write one yourself... If you're interested in learning the language, a blog script would be a great place to start :)
