I need an alternative to web hosts I am currently with 3 web host, over the last 6 months, I have had several problems with all of them EuroFastHost (has been the best out of the 3), but sometimes has slow connection to the Mysql database Omnis, was having slow MySQL request, and then, without warning, cut off all external access to their MySQL databases (making my site not work as it should). And still it suffers with slow MySQL By far the worst: Fasthost, recently was hacked, and forced all of its users a change a passwords for everything (mysql, ftp logging on to their site ..etc), and still even now suffers with slow MySQL connections CAN ANYONE SUGGEST AN ALTERNATEIVE ïŒ I have experience with hosting myself (apache), but cant keep the computer on 24hrs a day, and maintain it. I think what I need is called Rack Space, but I’m not sure??? I am willing to buy a server (but not really willing to spend more than £2K), but I need a place where I can keep my server, and hopefully have it manned (switched on when it goes off) Does such a thing exist, has anyone experience in this, can anyone suggest alternatives!!!
Well, i can't suggest much as you haven't actually told us how many hits you are getting per month / how much bandwidth or disk space you are using either. its not worth doing " home hosting " its for kids, its un-reliable, its slow and not the best thing of all to do. I suggest you don't buy a server. ( Purchasing hardware ) I highly suggest that you get a dedicated server ( Linux, CPANEL * MANAGED * ) that way your server issues are only caused by the managing company, you or unforseen variables are changed. Ive also sent you a PM regarding some reco'd hosts.
Might i suggest to you a good VPS that can handle all 3 sites? I wouldn't recommend hosting your sites on a desktop pc/server using your home as the physical point.
Here's a list of good value managed vps plans: http://www.hostingdiary.com/2007/09/best-vps-hostin.html Or, Hostgator has a holiday sale on now so you can get a managed dedicated server for just $140 per month: http://www.hostingdiary.com/2007/11/new-hostgator-c.html Andrew
Well as someone else said space and bandwidth requirements would be very helpful. Also the sort of traffic you're seeing would be useful also. Also could it be that your scripts are actually slow and have bad queries causing slow mysql for you? I hope you've ruled this out
Get an unmanaged server , then get a contract from say Platinium Server Management etc , one of those companies that managed servers, it will be cheaper that way.
