My new hosting provider told me that I need a valid reason to request a dedicated IP address. My hosting package comes with 2 IP addresses and this is the first time I had to give a reason to any host. I did say I needed a dedicated IP address for SEO but, it's not good enough. "SEO is one reason we may need it". May is not good enough unfortunately, we need 1 valid reason per domain, not for future usage, for now usage.
What software are you running on your site? That matters in requesting a dedicated IP. If your software needs it then your problem is solved. regards, allaboutdatingsites
Wouldn't the 3rd IP still be in the same class C block? Thus not that good for SEO. Pulling from a dedicated host's "IP justification" pdf ... 'why you need public IP address as apposed to private IP addresses. (Ex. VPN connections, remote access, PC Anywhere, Web servers, mail servers, FTP servers' SSL could be a valid reason, but I believe some of the hosting companies will check to see if your use matches. Why do you need it anyway? Is the reason really SEO?
Just request for an SSL, used self signed SSL and use that to promote your SEO! That doesn't violate your agreement with your host and allow your usage. Though I think nowadays IP shared or dedicated does not affect SEO.
are you willing to pay to get another IP? or rather how much are you willing to pay to get a 3rd ip? I ain't selling one. Just go to another host and request a dedicated ip with a cheap hosting package. If they ask, say you want it for https. Plus it could be in another Class C Block and would be good for SEO.
Seriously man, you have me confused. You are on a shared host which gave you two dedicated IPs? Which has zero to do with being on a shared host, it just makes zero sense for a shared host plan. Sounds like you want a dedicated server.
I know at 77gb (dot) net you can buy as many as you wants to, ofcourse you have to be hosting there I dont understand why your hosting wants a "valid" reason? either they have one to sell or they dont, why the excuse? Best regards...
There is a IPv4 ip addresses shortage. Also ARIN I believe dictates you do not need 1 IP per web site. SSL would be one reason you do.
It will make you appear that you are on a dedicated server which is pointless. For SEO it wont be good because your two IPs will probably be something like: 142.39.213.197 142.39.213.198 So it wont help, it will only help for SEO if the IPs are on different C Classess, but it still wont make much difference. www.seohosting.com are run by HostGator and offer 100's of C Class IPs for quite a low price. Also if you are running an E Commerce site then a unique IP is needed for SSL certificates to make your pages secure.
It all depends on where you have your dedicated box, I use cari.net and I don' even have to ask for my second IP to be on a separate class C, it ALWAYS is.
Valid reasons are: SSL Nameservers Physical Machines(new server installations etc.) and similar..think about them.
