I need a Social Networking script either free or affordable

    I am looking for a Social Networking Script in either PHP or ASP.NET. Is there any good free scripts? Or maybe something less than $100 ?
    I was looking at webNetwork by webScribble but it costs $199 and the forum plug in costs an additional $45 so its beyond my budget .

    laugh at those php social networks. Do you really think that you're allowed to waste someone's time via a slow site with 50 members around, just for getting $2 from adsense?

    Are you referring to the free and shareware scripts? Just asking because Facebook is one of the largest PHP implementations in the world. Would you consider the platform a waste of time?

    Try "Elgg", free and open source .. not very many bells and whistles though.

    ning.com is pretty cool. It has a lot of features.Users can even change the appearance of their pages using themes . But the only thing is that our network is created on their site and I think we get a sub domain address.

    Anyway thanks a lot for the info and I played with it for a long time :)

    Next I will need to check out Elgg as recommended by old_expat

    Build from scratch or don't waste your time.

    Do you honestly think MySpace would be where it is today if they used a...free script. Lol.

    phpizabi is also another good, free script .. it is easier to customise ;)
