uh that's a lot of data, i can't backup such amount online, also if your provider doesn't install centos again in the new hard drive it won't be possible to access the server in any way, have you asked your provider for a local copy? it shouldn't be difficult for them.

we all due respect, i think you don't know what you are talking about, what i need is a server manager, that can do this in a blink of an eye.

Unfortunately, he is correct if the drive that is failing is the drive that contains the root partition. If you have an IP KVM that supports using bootable media you could do this remotely.

Ultimately it would be best if you had the server provider install the new drive and then have then directly copy the data to the new drive. This will be significantly faster than trying to move 292Gb over the internet and then back. Your data center should be able provide this kind of service between 60-80/h.

Either way copying that much data will not be done in the blink of an eye and your drive may fail before the copy is complete. I suggest you have them copy the most important data first if possible.

If you really want a 3rd party to do the transfer I suggest contacting a server management provider such as:

    bobcares.com
    touchsupport.com

Please note I have not used these companies; they are merely two names I have seen recommend as reputable.

Doing it my way (significantly faster) around 1-2 hours for the job. some places will charge you for the whole 2 hours while they are sitting there watching the copy some might charge you for the 1/2 hour of actual admin work it takes.
    Doing it your way:
If I were to assume a constant download speed of 10Mbit/s to download 292Gb

    292Gb * 1024Mb/Gb = 299,008Mb
    10Mbit/s / 8Bits/Byte = 1.25Mb/s

    299,008Mb / 1.25Mb/s = 239206.4s

    239206.4s is about 66h 26m 46s
