If you need to use it for your personal needs, why not just use one of the existing web proxy sites out there. Those are pretty much free for you and made for visitors to use.

Just look at the For Sale / Sites here and you will find quite a number of web proxy available for use. Alternatively, just search in Google for 'Web Proxy'. There are tons of them out there.

    Here's what to do:
    1. Buy a .info domain
    2. Upload PHPProxy after you've got a host
    3. Surf the internet!

I'd get xxamp and set it up on your computer. Then follow the instruction for setting up the proxy server but instead of doing it via ftp put it in the hotdocs folder in xxamp.

Then you can simply go to http://yourip and connect to your computer which will act as the proxy.

Then again I'm not sure how proxys work and if it is even compatiable with xxamp. Look it up.

I can give it a shot.

First, download the Xampp version for your computer/server from: http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html

Second, open up the hotdocs folder in wherever you downloaded it and delete the index.htm and index.php.

Third, Go back to the first Xampp folder, and run setup_xampp.bat.
When it finishes setting up, you will a message such as "Press any key to continue". Do so, and the black box will disappear.

Next get the proxy scripts/files and stuff and stick them in the hotdocs folder.

Test it by going to http://localhost

if you see your proxy pages, you are ALMOST in business.

Now, if you have a router, you will need to port forward. I have a walkthrough that works for some, not for others. Depends on the router. I made this:

Check with your web host to see if they permit the installation of a proxy script.

Shared Hosting usually do not allow you to do so and some VPS and dedicated server also has TOS which disallow one to install proxy scripts.

Check with them first to make sure that you can do it.

Personally, I will just go make use of the hundreds if not thousands of free web proxy sites out there in the market.

Download the "installer". There will not be proxy/script files, you will need to find those. All xampp does is enable your computer to host such files.
