    Here are a few tips:
    - copy ads from others that are successful in different niches.. Look for ads that are in the 1-3 spots
    - have really tight adgroups (not more then 5 keywords in each and they have to be closely related)
    - have a lot of campaign negative keywords to weed out useless traffic
    - don't bid more then what's still breaking you even
    - always have 2 ads running and keep the better one
    - your goal is to have 10%+ ctr
    - but even though your goal is to have high ctr, pay more attention to conversion rates (add conversion tracking) and get try different approaches with keywords that are making you loses
    - target US, UK, Australia and Canada
    - turn content network off and just use site targeting (manually look for sites with high traffic that are in your niche and advertise on them)

There's no such thing as a free lunch. Why not hire someone to do it properly?

PPC Agencies aren't allowed to advertise on here, aside from giving helpful advice.

But there are plenty out there who will perform a one-off campaign review for a relatively small fee. As Trishan says, that's probably the way to go.

If you can't afford it, then I've written a free Adwords guide, which may help you to assess your own account:
    http://www.adwordsprofessional.com/google-adwords-introduction

And Google's own guide is essential reading before you even start: http://www.google.com/intl/en_uk/adwords/learningcenter/
