I have an outdated laptop. Its a 850mhz... Man I remember when that was fast... lol

Right now it has Windows Xp but I'm thinking putting on Windows 2000 Pro. Because it uses less resources, plus I kinda miss what it was like?

Do you think its smart to do this? Its not like its my main computer I have a Desktop and New laptop besides, but I wanted to give my old one to my wife because she aint looking for nothing spectacular.

Would it still be safe to surf the internet with Windows 2000 Pro... or would there be security threats?

    Just wondering?

Well if you're doing it just for the way it looks or something like that then save your time because you can make xp look like older windows. If you're doing if for performance then go for it 2000 is faster then xp like you said. As long as you have an anti virus and all the service packs and updates you should be fine. In the end it all comes down to what you want. If you really like windows 2000 then go for it.

There are ways to shut down a lot of services in xp and you can also remove a lot of visual stuff in xp too. All that will help with speed but I think windows 2000 would still be your best bet.

What???? How can you even say that? Windows 2000 was far superior then anything of it's predecessors. A ton of businesses still run windows 200 because of it's stability. If you want the worst os ever try out windows me.

There would be of course security threats as long as you are not updated... :(

I have to agree with allpro. Win2k was just more granular. It took a bit more know how to keep it secure but once it was locked down it was good to go.
Something to do with that nasty root thing that came up in XP.
But talk about a resource hog wait till you install Vista....

I agree with this. Win 2k Pro rocked my socks before I moved to Win XP Pro. Now XP Pro is just as good and a little smoother.

Vista. I hate it. I bought a new laptop (high powered) with Vista Home Premium on it and I must say it really saps the energy out of it. The specs on the laptop is twice as fast as this machine I am on right now. Yet, twice as slow. I really got to get a fresh Win XP OS on it me thinks.

I prefer WinXP because it's more secure.
Just stop the services you don't need and it should be fast enough for surfing, ecc.
