http://andymoore.info/ It was a blog, it was stagnant and I needed to revise it, this afternoon I decided to put some work into it. What dya think? Credit for the background image to the dude quoted in the css
It looks like you've got some nice content on your website, but I'm not sure about the layout. The text is a little difficult to read on that background. I think it would be easier on the eyes if you darkened the background behind the text to provide more contrast. I'm not a good graphic designer, but you could take the background in Photoshop and create a black box over the area where the text will be displayed, and then increase the transparency of the layer. I'm not sure if I've explained myself well or not, but hopefully you get what I'm saying. Also, rather than having all of your content in one single column, I think that it would look better if you could break it up into a two column layout. Maybe have your content that could be displayed as paragraphs of text in a left column 75% wide, and have your content that would be better suited to list display (such as tweets, downloads, and links, in boxes in a 25% wide right column. I hope that helps. -Peter
@trox - no i want it to stay one page - I want something simple, me wants, me gets! @sellme - it's complete enough for my liking as for pagerank it's not that important to me on this - as for a lot of work, your post could have used a lot more works to give it some content. @pete - yeah i get ya, different background style behind the text with an opacity / translucency to it - that'd be cool. Thanks all
Thanks! So to make it look more modern what are you suggesting? As it says I'm a developer, I'm not a designer so making things look pretty isn't without challenges for me. Rounded corners on the content, ocacity on the background - this would seperate the content from the background and still look funky, as well as sort out the issues of some text being hard to read, even though it's not primary text and used for things like tweet times etc. How else can it be made funky? And I'm not having a flickr style pink r in my surname!
The content was interesting but honestly it was too dark and the words were a bit hard to read. I think what you are trying to get out there is pretty good stuff but just need to brighten up the site overall. Good luck with it!
There's too much bold text. Emphasis is lost this way. Also, use whitespace more effectively. I would put more space between each section.
Your paragraphs are way too long you need to shorten them. You need more white space. The site is too bunched together. The black bg and white font may be a problem on some peoples eyes. How about adding some horizontal rules seperating each new heading, eg. twitter, mp3, etc
