I made money with CJ buying off my own links.

How funny is that. I signed up for a 1-month-free ProStores account (an eBay subsidiary) using my own CJ link and made 100 dollars. Then I canceled the account and kept the money.

I suppose I could always use my CJ links as sales coupons.

    Interesting.

To be honest I have never used my own affiliate links as I didn't bother reading the TOS.

I currently have one for Indigo Book Store. So if I buy using the aff link it's okay? No consequences?

I don't think CJ or affiliates are so sophisticated as to check between promoters & customers.

I actually have to buy something off one of my main affiliates. I was thinking about using my own link and changing the name, but i'm a bit paranoid of cj comparing the addresses and maybe denying it...so I might order it to a different address and name of a family member.

When I want to purchase something from a store I promote I always get consent to use my own links, 95% of the time they say go for it, the other 5% say please don't. It is best to ask first.

always ask first...as if they see the same ip over and over again...they will asume you are "forcing clicks" and they will give you the ever popular warning.....so ask or let them know that you are going to buy from your own link first. You will be surprised at how "human" they are when you ask them before you do something you think is illegal.

Is there any way to joint CJ without making the 50k a year that is required? I'm trying to become an affiliate of experian and I was told this is the only site that I could join to become an affiliate of experian. Any ideas or info let me know.

Have you been paid, have you actually gotten the commission?
Because if you refund the order, your commission is going to be reversed i.e brought back to zero.

Having commission doesn't mean anything if you don't get paid.

Why are people calling this a scam?
The fact is, if you receive no account activity in a year's time, they suggest you make a purchase to keep your CJ account active.

This is a well-known fact already.

I digress, actually it is 6 months, not a year.
I forgot about the part where they charged me a fee.
As I said before....CJ told me that purchasing from one of my affiliates was a method to reactivate the account.
Making a habit of it is a whole different story, of course.
This simply kept me from getting the dreaded DAF every month.
One purchase- good for another 6 months.

    Deactivation Due to Dormancy

Commission Junction deactivates publisher accounts that do not generate any valid commissions (from payable transactions) for an extended period of time. A Dormant Account Fee (DAF) charges publishers that do not generate commissions for a six month period. If you continue to not generate commissions, the DAF charges your account each month until your account balance drops below the DAF amount. At this point, Commission Junction deactivates your account for dormancy. Additionally, if you do not generate commissions for six months, and you do not have the funds to cover the DAF, Commission Junction deactivates your account.
    30 Day Warning

When your account is in danger of deactivation, Commission Junction sends you a 30 day warning email and posts an alert in the Messages area of the Account Manager Home page informing you of the future deactivation of the account. If you begin earning commissions before the end of the 30 day period, Commission Junction does not deactivate your account. You must continue to generate commissions to ensure the DAF does not charge to your account and you remain as an active publisher in the system.
    Reactivation

Accounts deactivated for dormancy are eligible for reactivation with Commission Junction, but you must re-establish any previous relationships with your advertisers. After reactivation, you are ready to redevelop your publisher business and begin actively promoting offers within the CJ Marketplace once again. Once the system reactivates the account, Commission Junction provides a six month grace period before you are subject to the DAF again.

It all boils down to the affiliates terms, on what is acceptable.
