I'd always known that it was possible to boost a WiFi signal using a cantenna or a wok - but today I tried it. AND IT WORKED! I didn't bother measuring anything, or getting into wavelengths etc - I just taped a USB WiFi stick to my mum's wok, and was able to get a connection from her house, back to my home network in my house (there's an orchard between our houses). Without the wok, my network didn't even show up - but using the wok I was easily able to watch YouTube vids etc from my mums house using my home network. It's an old site, but it's entertaining and has some good info on woks and DIY dishes: http://www.usbwifi.orconhosting.net.nz/
Hi, Looks like fun I think I'll give it a try thanks for Sharing. I wonder What would happen if you used a old 8' satellite dish. LOL hehehehe :flower: Sami
i did something similar for school project, but we used a satellite tv antenna instead of a wok and the result is amazing. We gave free wifi to a small park (around 2 x 2 block size) this is a similar instruction. We did some tweak to make it even more powerful http://www.engadget.com/2005/11/15/how-to-build-a-wifi-biquad-dish-antenna/
I'm going to try making one out of a wok lid (much lighter), and also try and make it weather proof. I was soooo close to buying a 12dBi antenna for my router - so glad I didn't waste my money
