I belong to another webmaster forum (a few actually) I found prior to finding DP, though I rarely visit there. A while back I started a thread that went like this I got a response that went like this... So I explained... I was basically looking for a webpage editor to keep on my site which would allow members to create "homepages". Is that hard to understand? I said that I wasn't sure if it even existed... I was just looking for imput. Here is a list of a few responses I received... another member wrote (uhhh... it is a pet website you tool!) and it went on with moronic responses to a totally serious question... in which I recieved no help. There were even more rude posts calling me stupid and telling me I should go to college (uhhh... done that- I'm not going to get into a battle degrees with people!) So... basically my rant is that every other webmaster forum sucks aside from Digital Point, but I guess that's good because I found you. I once (on a totally different board) asked for a graphic designer and a few people responded "what are you looking for a handout?".... ummm, NO- I was totally willing to pay and actually found a great graphic designer, who I pay! Why are people so rude sometimes? I didn't say anything that implied I was looking for a handout It's crazy because the beat of this board is so different. Nobody knocks you for being a newbie and not knowing your stuff as well as them. People are always willing to help here. I've yet to have someone belittle me on this board... and I just wanted to thank all of you for that. You're a great group and I'm glad to be part of it
WordPress has a plug-in for multi-blogs, it will do sort of what you described there. Otherwise, use a 3d party tool like http://www.0catch.com/
multi-blog...sounds like a health cereal. DP is the best quality forum out there...I swear to it. I don't even spend much of my time anywhere else...except Graywolf's SEO blog.
Anonymity breeds rudeness and internet tough guy syndrome. Some communities are led by folks more interested in making themselves look good than fostering a level playing field where everyone has a chance to give and take.
Also there are social networking scripts out there which you can buy. It seems moreso that you should just have someone custom code the extra pages you want to tie into your forums. I have never looked into it but you should be able to have someone code in a certain permissions group that would be allowed to create some sort of templated page that could be linked to in there user profile. You can also set up a mod rewrite that would redirect this script to show the username as : xttp://www.site.com/membername/ That in my opinion would be your best bet to achieve what I think you want (which is some sort of here's my pet page i'd guess)
