Recently I linked to several autority sites relates to my key words on my front page and then experienced a rise in serps. Might be a coincidence but I thought it was interesting enough to share.
Its more likely due to the alteration of your pages keyword density with the addition of the links and anchor text.
Funny thing but I heard that from different sources. One guy insists that linking to a big domain registrar like namecheap can help you. I never tried it out yet. How big was your rise in the serps? Gunter
Coincidence are great aren't they It was most likely the alteration of your page, it has never been proven in theory that a sites outbound links can have a positive effect on SERPs, they can have a negative!
Yeah, I agree that this does help serp ranking to a certain extent. Our company owns two businesses. The other business (ie. the site I have a brotherly-rival with) has a link and our usual anchor text on their homepage. Searching for us in SE's always brings them up somewhere in the top 10. I tried the same idea by linking back to them, but didn't notice too much traffic increase. Take the examples: http://www.cupargardencentre.co.uk - me http://www.online-garden-centre.com - them haha
Could be a change in keyword density, but I had payed attention to that previously. Rise in serps was supstantial. On 1 keyword rose from 5th to 3rd, but have now droped to 4th, but on a bigger more compeditive keyword rose from about 15th to 11th, no just have to crack 1 more spot on that to hit page 1. Typically an indicator of authority sites are that they rank very well on many key words related to your nich. I also hadn't been moving on the more compeditive keyword for quite a while. Also can not attribute it to more links recently.
