I learned something new about MSN today

One of my sites was down almost all day yesterday. It was down from about 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. I was forced to put up a page to inform my visitors: It was a simple message like "..blah blah .technical difficulties..blah ..blah .try later..."

Seems MSNbot grabbed that text and displays it for one of my highest ranking keywords. I rank #2 for this keyword and the title in the SERPS is "XXXXXXX.com" with the description as above. "..blah blah .technical difficulties..blah ..blah .try later..."

What did I learn? They updated their version of my page, but it still ranked for the keywords it did before the site went down, even though the keyword was nowhere to be found. Now, is this useful for anything? I'm not sure yet....

My site is down also atm.

Its funny I stumbled across this post without even having to search. I was going to ask what happens. I was more hoping that the page doesnt get indexed. I would hate to see site offline on SE for 7 days.

I don't know about being useful, but I don't see it as a harm.

That's a good discovery. Only I don't know how we can use that info in optimizing our sites in MSN. :D

Nothing exciting. That only tells ya that a subit disappearing of your website is treated as a technical difficulty for a while, which is logical isn't it ?

I'm surprised your description in the SERPS was updated that fast...I guess is should be changed as fast once you fix it.

Nope it is still that way almost three days later. At least I still rank for that keyword. Getting less traffic though since the description says the site is down....hmm we'll see how long it takes to change back. I'll have to check my logs to see when msnbot last access the homepage.

    Nope not ipowerweb

Yep, that is a possibility. However, there may be soemthing else we can gleen from this..
