I know how to link build, but how do you do it fast?

Link building is the most tedious aspects of web development to me! I actually enjoy SEO and site design, and a lot of other aspects too, but going around posting in forums and blogs, and getting listed in directories is just plain boring and frustrating to me. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy forums, if I'm posting about something I care about, but posting just to add links is not something I enjoy doing at all.
I don't really post that much naturally, so it's not an effective method for me to use. Although, I'm sure it is for a lot of people. Some people live in forums and just post and blog all day long. I am not one of those people, so I'm wondering if anybody has a good technique or system they could recommend? What can I do to make people want to link to my site? Is there a quicker way of submitting articles to multiple websites?

Link building should be at moderate level. No sudden boost of backlinks is the safest way. So, if you enjoy writing 2 - 3 posts a day, that will get you 2 - 3 backlink a day. Do it consistently. That what it matters.

You need to give a lot of time in order to build links.
One good way is to use web 2.0 properties like squidoo, hubpages, weebly, quizilla, wordpress etc... write an article related to your site, and post on these sites.. If you can write more articles than its great (as you will not be punished for duplicate content) otherwise you can check article spinning software and change at least 30% of the article and submit to other web 2.0 properties.
    Hope that helps.

Thanks guys for the help. I think articles are the best way for me. You can usually put 3 links in the article and 3 in the signature or resources box.

You have few ways to do it.
    1. Buy a service for increasing backlinks
    2. You can use blog commenting, article submitting, Directory submission software but i do not recommend it because quick backlinks may harm to your pagerank.

Whats a good way to gauge how many back links you need to get first page results? Obviously it depends on the keyword, but other than that, should you just try to get as many as possible or stop at some point?

Its not recommended to build your links fast as search engines will pick up on it and penalise you.

Slow and steady is the way to go

build your links steady and slow, outsourcing does help you to save time and avoid the some routine stuffs.

Alternatively you also set a game plan for yourself everyday for example, writing 1 article and submitting to directory, 20 mins forum posting, 20 mins blog posting, submit rss feed etc.

    Hope this helps.

Outsource stuff like submissions, but creating 50 new links a day, won't hurt you. Just make sure before you pay someone are they really doing you any good? Article directory submission is almost a waste of time. If you write good content do more with it.

Link building is really a continuing process.. even if you get to feel it's already boring, you have to continue doing so.. I think even experts would agree.. I hope.. :)

These statements are simply NOT true...

Let's say you had a blog about Cancer, and lets say that one day you found a cure for Cancer and you posted it on your blog

You would get millions of backlinks almost overnight... I guarantee that would not get your blog penalized, in fact, I guarantee that your blog would shoot straight to the top of the search engines ;)

It's not good to do it fast. Every search engine will find it suspicious if you build links fast. My advice to you is to take it slow, have patience and the results will come.

Keep on building quality links till you get to the first position on the first page of Google, for a given keyword, then you start targeting another keyword. It is a continuous process. And remember that the competition is really intense in most profitable keywords.
